“We all have the power of choice to control our actions and reactions, and with good choices, you can change any situation for the better” – Rajesh Durbal
Pepperclub Hotel & Spa had the pleasure of welcoming US born Rajesh Durbal, a triple amputee athlete, two times ironman record holder, global motivational speaker and founder of LIVE FREE Foundation, back to hotel during the month of March.
Having previously stayed at the hotel in March 2014 while participating in the Cape Town Cycle Tour during his Freedom Tour to Africa tour (See article: Triple amputee, Rajesh Durbal, inspired after riding Argus with local amputees), Rajesh once again visited the Mother City to participate in the race, as well as to debut the documentary of his Freedom Tour to Africa tour, Beyond Boundaries.
Pepperclub Hotel & Spa was honoured to host the red carpet affair and exclusive screening of the documentary nine mountain climbers, six of them physically disabled, that successfully summit the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro
Led by Rajesh Durbal and world renowned neurosurgeon of The Steelers, Dr. Joe Maroon, the Beyond Boundaries documentary details first-hand the experience of the climbers’ preparation, struggles, challenges, and ultimately their success as they reach the top of the summit. Guests at the screening witnessed the team encounter difficult terrain and battle with altitude changes, all the while working as a team, pulling together and using all their resources to make their way through it – needless to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house at the end of the evening. Following the premier on Saturday, 7 March, Rajesh participated in the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour. While a shorter route this year, Rajesh was still happy to be able to take part in the world famous event for the second time.
Rajesh truly is an inspiration to us all and reminds us that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. For more information on his inspirational journey, please visit his website: http://live-free.net
The Pepperclub Autumn wine tasting series kicked off last night, with guests sampling the Ernie Els range of fine wines in our cosmopolitan Paparazzi Bar & Lounge. And what a success it was!
While the weather wasn’t typically of Autumn temperatures, but rather a balmy summer evening (not that we’re complaining!), it was the perfect setting for the launch of our latest wine tasting series, and offered guests a chance to unwind on our outside veranda while savouring Ernie Els vintages.
Guests were treated to the upbeat and complex nose of the Ernie Els 2014 Big Easy Chenin Blanc and full-bodied 2013 Big Easy red blend, which both epitomize Ernie Els’ (the man himself) manner – big in stature, yet gentle in character. Guests also sampled the Ernie Els 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, and to top the evening off on a high note, the Proprietor’s blend was served.
If you missed out last night, be sure to attend the second instalment of our Autumn wine tasting series on Thursday 16 April 2015 at 5.30pm to sample varieties from Durbanville Hills and Neethlingshof.
No bookings are required and the wine tasting runs from 5.30pm to 7pm. For more information, please view the event page (here).
