Pepperclub Hotel & Spa successfully launched their Spring wine tasting series to Capetonians on Thursday, 2nd October 2014
Celebrating its one year anniversary since the launch of the first wine tasting series, the hotel and participating wine farms pulled out all the stops for Cape Town’s wine enthusiasts.
Boutique winery Flagstone hosted the first wine tasting evening and spoilt attending guests to an assortment of their wine varietals including The Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon, Dragon Tree Cape Blend, Word of Mouth Viognier, Noon Gun White Blend and Poetry Merlot. Each bottle displayed, both in branding and taste, offered a quirky, creative story behind its origin.
Award winning Stellenbosch winery, Yonder Hill, and renowned wine farm, Anthonij Rupert Wines, hosted the second and third wine tastings respectively.
Yonder Hill offered guests the opportunity to taste wines from their Y- Range and Premium Range as well as their Sauvignon Blanc, Inanda and Merlot. Guests were also invited to sample Olyfberg olives, which were paired with the various blends.
Anthonij Rupert honoured the Mother City by displaying their Cape inspired wine range, titled Protea. Guests had the opportunity to taste the Chenin Blanc and Merlot from the range. The host explained during the tasting that each wine bottle was designed to be re-used and recycled, thereby enabling wine enthusiasts to create a variety of products from the empty wine bottle. Other wines on display included Cape of Good Hope Altima Sauvignon Blanc, Anthonij Rupert Optima and the renowned L’ORmarins MCC NV.
Hosting the fourth wine tasting event was Peter Falke, a Stellenbosch based boutique wine farm known for their exclusive range of wines. Attending guests had the opportunity to savour varietals from their 2011 – 2014 ranges which included a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Ruby Blend and Signature Syrah.
The next two wine tastings were hosted by Stellenbosch based wine farm, Glenelly, and boutique winery, Winters Drift, who each provided guests with an assortment of varietals from their diverse wine collections.
Glenelly showcased wines from signature collection titled Grand Vin, which included a Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine farm also allowed guests to taste from their Glass Collection, renowned for its earthy influence, both in design and taste. From this collection, their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay were on offer.
Based in Elgin, Winters Drift, treated guests to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz wines from their 2013 collection.
Situated on the Stellenbosch Wine Route, Zevenwacht wine estate, hosted the final wine tasting evening of the Spring series, and showcased varietals from their 2010, 2011 and 2013 collections, which included: 360 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve (CMC Bordeaux Style Blend), Syrah, Chardonnay and 7even Pinotage.
Throughout the Spring series, guests were encouraged to enter the wine tasting series competition, which saw Kathryn Austin win the overall Spring wine tasting series prize – a luxurious complimentary night stay at the hotel with his/ her partner valued at R 3 500.00
