“At a time when the South African economy is facing challenges, the tourism sector can play a vital role in contributing towards economic growth. As an international platform for international travellers and industry professionals, the World Travel Awards creates widespread awareness for nominees across the globe and has the potential to attract interest from various international travellers,” says Seewer.
Now in its 23rd year, the annual awards are globally considered the “The Oscars of the Travel Industry”, and aim to recognise and reward excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. Each region hosts a regional awards ceremony, following which, these regional winners are entered into the global awards categories to contend for the World titles.
Seewer adds: “The 2016 award nominations are truly an honour for us, especially since this will mark the fourth year we have been nominated for the title of Africa’s Leading City Hotel.”
