Making an active difference to help Cape Town’s homeless
In order to make a lasting difference in the surrounding area, Pepperclub Hotel & Spa has partnered with the Haven Night Shelter, a welfare organisation located in Green Point, as part of their internal corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
Providing temporary shelter, physical care, social welfare and family re-unification services to adult homeless persons in the Cape Town Metropole, the Haven Night Shelter is a sanctuary for many of Cape Town’s underprivileged and homeless residents.
In the lead up to Nelson Mandela Day, celebrated on Friday 18th July 2014, Pepperclub Hotel & Spa staff spent their 67 minutes at the haven equipped with paint and paintbrushes, restoring the shelter’s doors, windowpanes and walls. The team also provided sandwiches for the homeless during lunch.
For National Heritage Day – known affectionately as ‘Braai Day’ amongst many South Africans – the team visited the shelter to celebrate the day with the shelter residents. With the help of Scott Hendrie, Executive Head Chef at the hotel, the team whipped up delicious gourmet chicken hamburgers and boerewors rolls for the residents to enjoy.
The hotel also sponsored a luxurious stay for a lucky winner, inclusive of a delicious breakfast at the hotel’s in house restaurant Sinatra’s, for the shelter’s fundraiser held on World Homeless Day on Friday, 10th October 2014. A total of R 23 000.00 was raised at the event, with the room night contributing R3 500.00 towards the total.
